I used to be on the final stretch of the home with a toilet transform. The final large undertaking was DIY wainscoting, and for this toilet wall, I made a decision to make a jury panel with tile accents. That should not come as a shock as a result of that is what I do in hallway bogs too, and it is certainly one of my favourite options of that loo. So naturally, I needed my favourite design function to be repeated on this toilet.
I have never completed one part fully, however I am making nice progress on this part, and it simply must be caulked, prepped, and painted. After which I can add tile accents, and this half will likely be finished.
The largest problem was determining learn how to incorporate the tiled accents across the self-importance. As a result of it’ll decide how the wall trim must be utilized to the remainder of the wall the place there isn’t any dresser or desk. So this is how I selected to do it.
On this part of the wall, I’ve put in a 1″ x 5″ plank alongside the underside close to the ground. After which I measured 32 inches and mounted the 1″ x 4″ board horizontally in order that the highest fringe of the board was on the 32-inch mark.
Within the space across the dresser, this measurement locations the highest horizontal board slightly below the desk. You may see within the picture under that with the plywood sitting instead of the quartz countertop, the sting of the wall sits simply above that high 1″ x 4″ horizontal plank.
My desk will likely be 3/4 inch thick, so I want one thing to fill the three/4 inch house round the remainder of the wall. So I used my desk noticed to tear the 1″ x 4″ board into 3/4 inch broad strips. Remember that a 1″ board is not really 1″ thick, nevertheless it’s really 3/4″ thick. So the ultimate measurement of this strip is definitely 3/4″ x 3/4″. And I nailed it to the wall proper above the earlier board. I edited this picture to stipulate these strips with black strains so you may really see them. In any other case, it blends into the messy space of the wall proper above it.
Subsequent, I put in the three/4-inch cupboard piece proper over the three/4-inch strip.
With that strip and molding in place, you may see from the picture above that if I put the tile proper on the wall, it’ll set again about half an inch from that trim. It will not look good in any respect.
So subsequent, I tore off a 1/2-inch piece of plywood, measured to a width that might match my tile strip (4.25 inches), after which nailed it to the wall.
This thickness will carry the tile off the wall within the good quantity. It should nonetheless be rearranged just a bit bit, however not an excessive amount of.
At this level, I took a while so as to add a 1″ x 4″ vertical lower to the underside space to bisect the rectangle.
That method I can go forward and fill within the gaps with wooden filler so it could actually begin to dry.
To complete off the highest of the tile accent space, I lower one other 3/4″ x 3/4″ strip and nailed it proper over the plywood.
To complete the entrance of the piece, I used 1.5 inch cupboard trim, however I used a desk noticed to tear it to three/4 inch. You may see within the picture under how the unique trim regarded (above) and what it regarded like after I ripped it off (backside).
After which I nailed it to the entrance of the three/4 inch piece. I put the used veneer there so you may see the strips. With out it, it’s combined straight into the plywood.
And eventually, I used my desk noticed to tear off a chunk of wooden so I had 1.25″ x 1/4″ items to cowl the highest of those items…
And I nailed it in place, ending the highest of the wainscoting design.
You may see under that I added sufficient so it’ll have about 1/4 inch of lips.
To complete the panels, I lower and put in the bottom cap molding.
And that is the essential design of wainscoting. I am going to have this piece (and hopefully the others) finished on Monday, so you need to examine again and see the way it appears as soon as it is painted and has the tile accents in place.
To assessment it, the next is a primary overview of the anatomy of the jury panel with tile accents.
A. 1″ x 5″ (really 4.5″ broad)
B. 1″ x 4″ (which is definitely 3.4″ broad)
C. 3/4″ x 3/4″ strip (precise measurement, torn on a desk noticed)
D. 1/2 “plywood”
E. 1/2″ cupboard trim
F. 1.5″ cupboard trim (tears to three/4″ on a desk noticed)
G. Base cap mould
H. PVC shingles mould
